pic for peaceLast week was an interesting one for us. I was doing a locum for another GP whose practice has mostly younger patients than what I am used to so it was a totally different set of pathology and different speed and number of patients. There were admissions and a government clinic and another home to do visits at. All in all it was quite a run around, chaotic week.

To make matters more interesting, Peter was starting play school. So I was getting all his clothes labelled and making sure he had all his stationary and that I had packed a good lunch etc. He did not even cry a single tear – just walked away and jumped onto a plastic motorbike. The only tricksy part was that he is too wired and excited to sleep. So at home he is full of the grumps and tantrums and taking forever to go to sleep. It was a trying week. On Wednesday, I actually had to put him in the car and drive around for 30 minutes before he fell asleep. While I was driving, at 20.45, I was playing Christian lullabies and it dawned on me that it was actually a very peaceful moment. It was a moment of calm, quiet and peace despite all the madness and chaos – and it was wonderful.

We are so blessed that no matter what happens in life, no matter what trials come our way; no matter what unexpected things happen or what life throws at us; we will always be able to find that moment of peace. We will always be able to take a moment to pause, to be still and to gather ourselves. God has shown us where to find it. The Bible is full of verses about peace. My prayer this week is that we would all look to the source of peace and that He would give us those pockets of peace when we need them most.
